How about this! The Fox News station in Oregon shot some good video and interviews of play in the State Games of Oregon. Makes you wonder why Arizona stations give Pickleball absolutely ZERO coverage. I mean Arizona is fast becoming the Pickleball Winter Mecca. This has to change! Anyway, thanks to Oregon Fox News for their coverage.
Pickleball popularity taking off: Popularity for the hybrid of tennis and ping pong is picking up with the State Games of Oregon. (7/9/12)
Also, I had a great morning of Pickleball at the Surprise City Courts. I'm telling you, if you want to play with some of the absolute best players in AZ, you need to show up out there. GREAT FACILITY and even greater people and players.
Lastly (for today), don't forget to sign up for the 2012 National Tournament which begins November 4th. Tournament Directors Steve Wong and Gigi Lemaster are already hard at work to ensure this year's tournament will be the best ever. If you know Steve and Gigi, you know they will get 'er done! Go to USAPA.org, register and GET IN THE GAME!!!

1st Annual Firecracker Pickleball Tournament
The 1st Annual Firecracker Pickleball Tournament was held this morning at La Camarilla Racquet and Fitness Club in Scottsdale,AZ. La Camarilla is a great facility and their four new PB courts are outstanding. Winter visitors to Scottsdale, Northeast Phoenix and Paradise Valley need to take note of La Camarilla as a great place to play. The play was spirited and the weather even cooperated, giving overcast skies, cool temps and even a cool breeze (very unusual for July in AZ!). The winning team (pictured below) was the super good guys Chris Watts, representing Surprise PB Club and Bill Langham from Fountain Hills PB Club. Second place went to the team of John Kraft and yours truly. A great time was had by all. Now, if there was just a beach close by........................

"The Art of Pickleball"
My apologies to my friend and author, Gale Leach. I have been meaning to comment on her GREAT book, "The Art of Pickleball", but haven't gotten around to it due to having the "CRUD" that nearly everyone in the Phoenix area has been inflicted with. No fun I tell ya', no fun at all! That and a case of arthroscopic knee surgery has sidelined me but I am back at the keys.
Anyway, back to Gale's book. "The Art of Pickleball" is unquestionably the best book on our sport that has been written to date and sets the bar very high for anyone who chooses to follow Gale's lead. I have read "The Art of Pickleball" cover to cover twice, maybe three times and learn something new each time. If you are new to the sport, a 5.0 rated player or anywhere in between and are looking for THE definitive book on Pickleball, you have to get this book. From the game's history to instruction to strategy to rules, IT IS ALL THERE.
